Joining the Army

I am somewhere, in a place, I've been doing something important that I can't recall. In a house, I think.

Then I feel a sudden need to take care of something. I run to the highway and begin running on the pavement. It is as if I'm on one of those "electric sidewalks" at the airport and I am moving very quickly to my destination.

I arrive. I am here to sign up for the army. Outside, behind a fence, and up on a hill is someone from one of my college classes that I recognize as a member of the military. The sign-up sheet is a warehouse of sorts and I know that the person I need to sign with is a middle-aged woman. She says hello then disappears for a while. I find my way to her office and sit. I am firm in my intention to join the army.

She arrives. I specify that I am to join the military if a war breaks out. I am confident that this is the right path. Two members of my extended family walk by, a much older male second cousin (in his 50's) and a slightly younger second cousin (early 20s) I hide my intention to join the army from them. I don't want anyone to think I am doing it for personal glory.
